(nagasiva) one way to get the management interested would be to go to the PRESS; they get enough stories in the press about the YT environment being run by bullies using their mechanism and they'll take notice.
(nagasiva) they could start with their own presses; Neopagan and Satanist; presumably this is already happening as people will communicate the news of the events.
(VenusSatanas) well hey one good thing is that it seems to have brought the pagans/wiccans/satanists together finally.
(nagasiva) this is what people really have to understand: sniping and bashing on one another just leaves the whole weakened for the mainstream religious to pick us off. now we're apparently reaping the benefit of that blindness. [or at least being manipulated into thinking so -- ny]
(VenusSatanas) yeah you are right. this is what they want to happen.
(nagasiva) this has always been the case, but the young, foolish, and headstrong do not think of it or believe it until they too become victims. and so many of those who are Satanists are so temporarily and transitionally so that it comes down to people like us to inform them of it.
(VenusSatanas) whats a good solution to this mess?
(nagasiva) petitions and user coalitions backed by religious endorsement of the petitions, publicized on websites if they aren't taken seriously immediately by YT admin; abandoning YT as a means of solving YT; circulating petitions amongst those who are affected informing them of the problem and with lots of signatures, presented formally to the YT staff. [see the preceding Appendix A for such activities that are already being undertaken by people. -- ny]
(nagasiva) they may do nothing. a followup as part of the presentation could include the intended action if nothing is done by YT (publicizing it so that others won't become embroiled in wasted time like those who are signing the petition have), as well as taking it to the press so that the public knows how YT is being abused by hate groups. [if in fact it is; there is no easy way to identify who is doing the mischief. -- ny]
(nagasiva) YT admin might see that they should be doing something or, if they already are trying to take steps, make those who present the petition(s) aware of what they're doing. initial contact should be attempted by those with complaints to their proper avenues.
(nagasiva) before any plan of action should be constructed ordinary efforts of communicaton should be taken to avoid wasted time/effort. thus those who put it into effect should contact them via email, phone, and fax and try to find out what they intend to do about it and get it in writing. that writing can be used in 2 ways: as a spur to others to sign the petitions, and as a lead-in to press stories. also, YT may say "yes we are taking steps to do something about this and expect to have it in place by 5/2009 or something which would make the whole petition plan unnecessary.
(nagasiva) most Neopagans (and Satanists) are not administratively or bureacratically savvy. they will forget the initial steps and move to emergency measures. instead, what should happen is that a foundation of communication should be laid that justifies these emergency steps, if they are really necessary. that foundation ought to be based on actual contact with the company that runs YT by people who can adequately represent the interests of those who have been harmed, those who can both speak well and who are respected by a sizable number of their customers. you would be a good candidate for the Satanists, for example. BFW [BlueFireWitch] might be a good one for the Neopagans. the two of you are good communicators. if you two wrote a letter informing YT what had been done to BFW and that this is representative of what seems to be on the horizon, this might be meaningful to YT, or they might ignore it. if you emailed, then wrote the same in writing, faxed, and phoned the same message which also requested a response with explanation of how they can stop the problem, then they may explain how they intend (if they do) to solve it. if you explain that you have a plan in place to circulate petitions to demonstrate to them that this problem is happening, [note: someone is already doing this, see above -- ny] and that if you don't get from them that they are going to take steps to fix it, that you *care about YT enough as a community* that you are willing to make extra efforts to circulate petitions and demonstrate this to them and, if nothing more occurs, at least make it known to your religious communities and to the ordinary presses that this condition exists at YT and should not continue (never complaining that they will not fix the problem; the idea is to get them to say "Oh, we didn't know, sure we'll fix it for you").
(VenusSatanas) yes yes! i havent been attacked but i feel bad for those who have and i don't think it is right in the least bit, and this plan is starting to sound very good.
(VenusSatanas) im not afraid to do something about this. but your right, it has to be done in the right way
(nagasiva) if they see you as loyal users of YT and representative of plainspoken, clear and level-headed religious with a serious problem taking steps to communicate it to the right places via numerous means (again, via email, form-mail, fax, phone, street mail), then they should take you seriously. if that doesn't happen for some odd reason and they put you off, then you can outline your plan for them and execute it slowly so they'll have time to respond.
(VenusSatanas) yes, thank you nagasiva; i feel 100% better.
(nagasiva) the real work would be the second stage of collecting signatures on a petition [already begun -ny] which could be done via chain-mail adding of email addresses and names to a brief letter explaining the problem and that the undersigned want YT to fix it somehow. I suspect that if you were to include that second stage plan in the initial letter 'We have this problem and we haven't heard that YT wants to fix it or knows how, but are sure that you do and we just have to get to the right person or have enough of us behind the complaint' then i think you'll hear something positive from them.
(VenusSatanas) trouble is that youtube does not broadcast their email addy anymore. any correspondence has to be done through the mail.
(nagasiva) let me see what i can dig up for you. that's one thing i am pretty good at. you may be stuck with communicating via postal mail or something. I'll look into it today. [I found phone and fax, see above. -- ny]
