Marshalling the Armies of Darkness ---------------------------------- on 49991009 IVom Dark Moon I once again invoked the daemon Beelzeboul/Beelzebuth within a square sigil described in "The Lesser Key of Solomon" grimoire ('The Goetia') in a quasi-Goetic invocation to Marshal the Armies of Darkness affirming the cause of Satan (service to the wild). preparation the evening before I had prepared two large batches of Black Arts formula powder (for the sigils) and incense (for the atmosphere and trance). the incense I placed in four toilet tubes, compacted, held in the bottom with gluesticked paper caps. just after sunset on the 9th I used a yellow plastic measuring scoop and the Magic Screwdriver to tap lines of powder on the ground. this worked very well, and even though it was pretty dark I just held a flashlight (small) in my mouth while doing the sigils. this method is very conservative of powder and I still think doing it before sunset on the day of the rite is most effective. I also drew out the variant sigils in the square and left an opening in the square's northwestern corner that I finished later to begin the rite. reflections sometime after midnight (1am? 2am?) I trekked out to the orchard where the sigils were drawn, invoking Ha Satanas, Mastema, and the Lord of the Earth (Beelzeboul -- also called the Marshal of Satan's armies). I inscribed four powernames (Lilith, Kali, Ahriman, and Ha Satanas) in the four corners of the square with the Magic Screwdriver. this time I did not use the Touch the Earth potion (having left it behind). I had set two candles burning: one black skull which I used in my pact with Satan years ago, the same red Baphometic Goat from previous rites. this time I did not have the Pact Stylus, the large black candle (which I left in the laboratory after making up the Black Arts items), or the Machete of the Mother (left lying on my altar as usual). I did, however, bring fruit juice and water, and a bottle opener for the beer. the black skull burned quickly and split into two, its wick igniting the ground beneath it. NOTE: one week after the first of these rites a group of women (sri catyananda's sister and her friends doing historical re-enactments and experimenting with past technologies) came to ArkaotikA to make soap. they selected the cleared and sigilized demon-summoning area for this activity. of particular note regarding this was their use of many cans of Red Devil Lye for the soap fixing and the amount of fat which was poured onto the ground -- this is likely what caught on fire during my rite. the remnants of soap-making (lye, water, and soap scum and boiled vegetable matter) was buried in the center of the ritual area at the end of their visit, the fire coals deposited above them. it would be atop this mound that I sat during the demon summoning. into this I tossed the baphometic candle also, the two being completely burned up by the praeternatural Eternal Flame of the ground. I wonder if this will always be the case in that area now (that I can light a candle by lighting the soil in that area :>). I used this Flame to light incense rods. the incense burned very well in compacted toilet tubes. I experimented by lighting one end of a tube's incense. this was slow to burn and produced little smoke. then I tried lighting the actual cardboard of the tube. this burned in a helixical pattern (the cardboard strip acting as a kind of wick) and set the incense aflame near to the cardboard. I blew the flames out partway through consumption and quite a bit of incense smoke billowed from the seared tube. I spread one burning tube's contents on the ground and this burned in a spread of incense filling the area with smoke. setting a tube on fire sideways consumed it more quickly and had the effect of producing a kind of 'tear gas cannister' incense bomb. the incense and powders, the means of dispensing and utilizing them, have stabilized into an efficient procedure described above. intoxicant triggers appear to have inspired a revisitation of my devotional Dark Moon days, and I sometimes sang to Kali chanting Her name, 'om' or 'aum', and Her mantra. I don't think that this distracted from the rite and was a very natural kind of communion between Kali and Beelzeboul; a conference of sorts, between the Marshal and the Queen of Demons. little glossolalia, instead a variety of chanted and rasped names from Biblical, grimoiric and Indian sources were the invocatory elements, occasional concentration on the sigil and seals of the daemon Beelzeboul punctuating a variable intonation or song. a presence inspiring me to consume the candles and incense was known to me. I was distinctly aware at more than one instant that the candle-flames were somewhat of a nuisance (either that they were too bright for another or for me as I invoked the daemon). I have consistently used the candles as a means of illumination for preparation, but this could be omitted with the use of a flashlight, doused once all items had been situated without disturbing the sigils (my main reason for needing to see initially). I noticed many squirrels harvesting walnuts in the orchard (sometimes within 20 feet of me). they did not appear to be affected adversely by the invocations, and the crickets went on singing also (at times I intoned to the rhythm of their music). for the future I have considered the introduction of mechanically- produced music to the rite (as was my practice previously), but this seems too great a distraction and will probably be saved for future rituals. Dark Moon seems to be very well-suited for this series of invocations, and I think starting at midnight is probably better for my composure as well as requiring less disruption of sleep patterns. blessed beast! nagasiva@luckymojo.com (nocTifer)
